Latest Baldness Breakthrough?

Although news like this could eventually make Guci Image and other hair replacement/hair restoration salons obsolete, Medical News Today reports here this week that there has been a possible breakthrough in the ‘cure’ for baldness.

Scientists from Northwestern University reported a correlation between balding and hair stiffening. As our joints indeed do, as we age, our hair follicles also stiffen, which impedes or all but completely halts hair growth. The NU scientists claim that they have found a way to stimulate hair follicles to soften them, which, from their research, would mean that follicles would be more likely to produce hair.

The process involved stimulates a tiny RNA particle called miR-205. In a lab, scientists indeed stimulated and softened mice stem cells, boosting their RNA production, and when the follicles relaxed, the mice, young and old, both grew hair. What is unique about this study as a possible breakthrough in the field is that no new stem cells are being generated, as lots of stem cell hair restoration is presently attempting. In this case, the stimulation occurs in existing cells.

What does this mean for humans?

Firstly, this experiment is at its beginning stages. Secondly, mice are not human. And even the best solution for hair growth or to arrest thinning must be taken on a case-by-case basis, considering each person’s DNA, heredity, and health. These factors and more that scientists have yet to understand completely can help or hinder the effectiveness of treatments or applications.

But to see progress in this field from a seemingly different avenue should give us hope.

In the meantime, Guci Image stands as we always have, on the side of well-vetted science, looking for improvements in all we use and do. Good science and skilled researchers have brought us to what we can offer our clients seeking undetectable, safe, and affordable hair replacement and restoration. And science will lead the way into the future, we are assured.
