Trouble in Hair Land…From Afghanistan to here in New Jersey

Although we know you never would; still, you certainly will never take your Guci Image technicians for granted after hearing about these latest two stories.

Firstly, the Taliban have ordered hair and beauty salons in Afghanistan to shut down. This is the latest restriction imposed on women in a country known for their so many restrictions. The Taliban have also barred teen girls and women from attending classrooms, gyms, and parks and banned any of their ladies from working for the UN. When the Taliban were last in power, 1996-2001, they shut salons, but they were reopened during the US invasion in 2001.

Now it seems the powers-that-be are back to their old ways.

As Guci Image hair wearers identity by the hair they wear, we also know there are many people in the hair care, cutting, styling, and coloring field that equally identify by their work. It seems in New Jersey, as it is in a bunch of other states, hair braiders are at risk of being fined or maybe even losing their jobs, as state cosmetology boards have been lobbying for braiding services to have licenses. But hair braiders and politicians are fighting back, claiming this policy would disproportionately affect immigrants and women of color.

This video story via Vice News and HBO reveals the trials and tribulations of a New Jersey hair braider.

Concerned as you should be with caring for the hair you wear, keeping to regular Guci Image appointments, and determining when best to have a cut and color to your hair piece or a change to a Lace Wig, there are the behind-the-scenes concerns hair cutters and a whole bunch of other salon service people deal with all the time, and unfortunately plenty of folks other countries who do not enjoy our freedoms.

Trouble in hair land, yes, though luckily, not at your door.
