This is certainly awards season. The Grammy’s, Golden Globes, and Oscars a comin’, Hollywood seems to take quite the delight and spare no expensive patting itself on its collective back this time of year…as it does every year. But beyond what we see of Jay-Z and his missus dancing across stages and accepting awards, or catching of Tom Hanks or Sandra Bullock walking down red carpets, there are so many technical awards given out at these shows and dinners never broadcast that they pass the layman’s notice.
One of these less publicized, certainly low profile awards will go to a celebrity-Johnny Depp in this case-at the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, Local 706 award ceremony on February 15th.
“Make-up and hair artisans agree that Johnny Depp is a wonderful selection to receive our first Distinguished Artisan Award. He, probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters. The award-winning characters he brings to life… beginning with Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands in 1990…iconic performances in Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland; and the Pirates of the Caribbean series…have been brought to life in partnership with his gifted make-up artists and hair stylists,” guild President Susan Cabral-Ebert said.
Joel Harlow, Depp’s make-up artist, will present the award that seems by the above statement and our recollection of these movies well earned for Depp.
